Vanna-And-They-Came-Baring-BonesThree years since Vanna graced us with their attempt at radio friendly album “A New Hope”, their latest offering entitled “And They Came Baring Bones” struggles to become a rememberable album.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE fan of Vanna, it just seems what they were trying to put across in this album gets lost in translation.

This could be do to a change in lead vocals. Or it could be down to the horrific death of Hardcore music.

What it comes down to is, that Vanna are missing a certain pop in their latest instalment. The once moorish written songs, now are heavily blazay. They are still using the same Hardcore template in “And They Came Baring Bones” but there seems to be a definite lack of experimentation which was heavily prevalent in “Curses” and “A New Hope” which works so well for the band.

I struggle to find a track that really stands out on the album. The closest one I find is”Silver Sun”, as it follows a classic Vanna formula. The music video to “Scarlett Shroud” quite frankly is boring. There was a a lot of hype surrounding the re-recording of “Trashmouth” to include Davey Muise’s vocals. The video was setting up the band for a brand new persona re-invention, however this did not translate well at all on their latest record.

The album lacks chemistry between clean vocalist Evan Pharmakis and the bands new harsh vocalist Davey Muise. The chemistry between Pharmakis and previous vocalist Chris Preece was what made Vanna such a tight band.

I do have to say, after watching clips of their new line up on YouTube, the band is unbelievably tight and Davey Muise is a brilliant front man. Its just a crying shame that the record did not reflect this.

Overall I would give the album 6.3/10, okay, but not great. I am hoping to see better releases soon from these Boston boys.
